It stayed chilly throughout today's hike, with the sun hidden from sight until the very final minutes on the trail. The ground was a little damp from the recent rain, but there wasn't any mud to contend with.

We passed Russ's group twice. They started from the upper parking lot at the same time that we left the Hewlett Pond lot.

Our group took some less-traveled routes through the apartment complex and the old homestead ruins. We were glad to see David S., on the hike. (He's been dealing with a foot injury for weeks.) And Jennifer is getting back into hiking shape after dealing with a serious sinus infection that kept her down for a couple of weeks. We miss our regulars when they're out for so long! ~ Joyce
