We had a great group of hikers at Piedmont Park this afternoon and it was a treat for many of us to reconnect with AOC friends whom we hadn't seen since pre-pandemic times. Thanks to my Co-leader Joe Girardot for the nice job he did greeting everyone just inside the 12th Street pedestrian gate and presenting his fascinating "History Tour" and Q&A session in that oldest section of the park that surrounds Lake Clara Meer.
Those of us who preferred doing a little more hiking enjoyed a scenic loop beyond the lake and up through the Conservancy's newer trails & terrain just east of the Atlanta Botanical Garden - then beelined southward to Park Tavern via the paved Park trail that parallels the Atlanta Beltline and passes underneath the historic Park Drive bridge. Along the way several of our hikers politely split at various places that were near their parked cars.
Scott, Gloria, Lyn, Mike, Foster and I arrived on foot at the Tavern a little after 5:00 and staked out sunny outdoor table space on the edge of the huge adjoining park meadow. Had a good time sharing food, drinks & adventure stories with a dramatic sunset view of Atlanta's midtown skyline. Those of us who had parked along Elmwood Ave then had a short pleasant walk together back to our vehicles via the trail & sidewalk that adjoins the Tavern along Monroe Drive.
