Write Up:6 MILLION people in the Atlanta area and only TWO of those people were kayaking the 14.75 mile section of the beautiful Chattahoochee River (between McGinnis Ferry & Gerrard's Landing) yesterday evening! There was no shortage of wildlife sighting on this tour...The dive-bombing Osprey's, the coutless Belted Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons (nesting and feeding), and a record setting count of 4 different beavers and hunderds of Swallows getting food & water for their young...it was epic to say the least...as late day fog rolled in thick and the rains dotted the route a few times (to our enjoyment of course!).
Out of the 3 sections of the Double Dam route (U, M, L) this one is the longest and it makes you work the hardest. The shuttle is an a$$ kicker and the only one of the three that is longer than the actual paddle distance. Then throw in the mix a portion of this run has long, wide pools where the 6,800 cfs dropped to 1100cfs...the shoulder feels it today! All in all it was a great workout, but geez it worked us. All gearing up for a nice Double Dam run on the 18th....it would be a blessing for some of the same flow rates to help push us along!!!
