Sat, May 28 2022 - Lake Allatoona Paddle to the Falls (View Original Event Details)
|
On a beautiful cool spring morning, ten kayaks launched from Rope Mill's Landing. The lake was at full pool with a little over 840 feet level. Not having to negotiate around sandbars (mud bars) and shallow areas allowed us to make quick progress. We soon found ourselves at the falls. After a few photos, we set off for the turnaround point. Again we didn't have to circumnavigate shallows and we found ourselves at the "beach" turnaround. The beach had litter strewn about, but we managed a quick cleanup. On the return trip, Doug managed to kayak surf in the wake of a powerboat.
Finding ourselves way ahead of schedule, we continued up to the old mill dam and kayaked back through the spillway.
Congrats to Heidi for knowing the answer to the Trivia Question. "Deepest Lake in GA is Carters at 450 feet." Others, including myself, thought it would have been Lake Lanier.
