Write Up:Brilliant shafts of sunshine mingled with swirling mists as we began our trek from Woody Gap to Gooch Mountain Shelter. Flashes of orange foliage amongst the green revealed the first signs of autumn. The morning chill quickly was forgotten as we easily made our way up to Ramrock Mountain, past Jack's Gap, and around Gooch Mountain. Our return trip was enlivened by a happy family of five hikers. A Black Rat Snake hunted amongst the fallen leaves. All in all, an excellent day outdoors with beautiful views of the hills and valleys to the southeast.
