A group of five intrepid cyclists had a fabulous ride on the Arabia Mountain Trail despite weather that threatened to dampen our spirits. The weather was ominous as we made our way to the Stonecrest Library, and we worried as we turned on our windshield wipers. As Pam, Lysa, Pete, Dee and I arrived in the parking lot, the air was heavy.
We determined to boldly venture into the foggy mist, slowing our pace and carefully negotiating the twisty wet boardwalks. And our determination paid off, as the more we rode the lighter the sky got, and eventually the trail began drying out. Going slowly paid dividends as we got to appreciate the beautiful scenery of this gem of a trail, passing by old farms, past — and even over — exposed monadnock (that's for you, Lysa!), by streams and waterfalls, making friends with turtles and deer, and lest I forget, climbing up and down impressive hills!
We rode 20 miles and climbed almost 1,500 feet while appreciating what a joy it was to be outdoors. I can't that all parts of the ride were easy, I think I speak for all five of us when I say we enjoyed this ride with friends. I know I did.
