We had a great group of hikers at Island Ford this morning. The weather was about as close to perfect as could be for a hike.  It really helped that we were in the shade of the forest most of the time.  We saw two hawks at once when we were hiking around the pond and also a few turtles sunning on the logs. At one point by the river, we had a chipmonk that took over as trip leader. We were very lucky to have two newbies on the hike. Rosie was on her 3rd AOC hike and Evelyn was on her very first AOC hike.  Welcome to you both. You fit in very well with our group today and I hope to see you on many more of my hikes. We covered about 6.25 miles with a little over 600 feet of elevation.  All in all, a very nice hike.
