What an unexpected wonderful hike and dine we had today on what looked like a possible rain-out! I delayed the hike till 11 am, which unfortunately forced some cancellations; however, because of other hikes being cancelled and some last-minute add-ons, we had a cozy group of seven hikers. The rain had stopped by a little after 10 am, and though the humidity was high, the air was fresh and we had a very pleasant breeze.
We stopped at the beach and the bathrooms at the Paces Mill entrance, but otherwise kept a steady pace. We used all of our 2 hrs. 15 minutes, and we got a good workout, especially on that long uphill through the middle of the park.
It was great to see Scott, Steve T., and Greg W. this morning . . . folks who are rarely on our local hikes. And, of course, having Joy, Suzanne, and Mike C. on my hikes is always a pleasure.
As we wrapped up things in the parking lot after the hike, Mike suggested going to lunch. After much discussion, we agreed to try Steve T.'s suggestion of Blaze Pizza because they have outside seating, and we were all pretty soaked from the exertion of the hike. The food was great, and the casual, friendly talk was really wonderful. I left, feeling very happy to have had such a wonderful Memorial Day outing. ~ Joyce
