Well, today's hike didn't go exactly as planned. It began perfectly, with congratulations to Scott, a poster picture, and group photos. Scott anticipated this day for quite a while, so we were delighted to have him finally reach his 100th event!
The plan "fell apart" soon after beginning our hike, as we passed by an unforeseen yellow jacket nest. Those of us in the front passed by unscathed, but 8 of our guys got either one or several stings. Unfortunately, one of the sting victims (Tracy) was allergic to bee/wasp stings, and he soon began to have a reaction. Fortunately, he had an epi pen with him, and with Julie (a doctor!) by his side, he administered the serum while we stopped at the Visitor Center parking lot. The renegades were gathering there, so we were all very concerned for Tracy. Tracy wisely decided not to continue with the hike, and he accepted Jeff G.'s offer to be driven home. (Reports later from Regina said he was doing okay and resting.)
Another unplanned event was encountering Felicia on the trail, well into the hike. She was our special "newbie" today on her first event, but she arrived 5 minutes late - - so we were well into our hike by then. She took off on her own and actually found us as we hiked! We were happy to meet her, and glad she was able to hike with us.
