Ere half past seven, we did ready make, To beat the morn’s embrace and seek our path. We spied others with the same intent, And swift we set our pace with dawn’s first light.
The third mile open wide for each to run, Each chose their pace as suited to their will. Our leader, in intervals of run and walk, Did finish swift, in ten and fifty-seven.
We turned and met again, and thus completed, The rest of our journey in accord and peace.
