Sat, Jul 27 2024 - Fort Yargo Lake Loop (View Original Event Details)
|
We had a great group of strong hikers. The beach area is closed for renovation this year, so that cut out some of the inner loop trail (which is normally 7 miles, but is now 6.1), but we added a section later in the hike to bring it to 7 miles.
The conditions were a little damp but we got lucky with the weather.
There were a lot of mushrooms out from recent rains so we paused a few times to check them out. Lots of flora to see this time of year, including the flowering Marsh Mallow growing in the marshy sections by the lake.
We saw a turkey vulture fly up to its perch.. thanks to Huiling for the ID.
We stopped at the old Fort before crossing the final bridge back to the visitor center where we started.
A great hike!
