Sat, Aug 10 2024 - KMNBP Trails Work Days - Camp Brumby Trail from the Visitor Center (View Original Event Details)
|
We met by the picnic tables near the Visitor Center where we did introductions. We did the safety brief talked about changes coming to signing up for events, checked to ensure everyone had photo waivers with workday pictures now being posted on the Friends of Kennesaw Mountain and the National Park’s KMNBP’s Facebook pages, Crew Leader Training (11/2/24), and the September Workday (9/14/24).
We walked to the tool shed to get tools. Joyce and Kirsten were assigned to group 1 and proceeded to the first item on the workplan where we removed debris from the drainage ditches, I moved them to group 2 to add addition adults to this group (they had 44 high school kids, group 1 only had 27) they played leapfrog with group 1 working on the next line of the workplan until we finally ended up working on line 7 the finial line. In addition, the deberming and cleaning ditches, we carefully cleaned the foundation of one on the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) buildings built in 1933. Due to the temperature, I drove a John Deere Gator (UTV) with water and snacks between the two groups making sure everyone had enough water and took break while I ensured the work was being done in accordance to park regulations. Even driving I still end up at 10,000 steps because I would park than walk to several worksites that the trail was too narrow to drive before returning to the Gator. We finished by returning the tools to the tools shed.
A job well done by all!
Mike
