We started the morning at Red Top Mountain State Park with clear blue skies and hot temperatures. The mercury crept up as we crossed the "big water" and paddled hard to our halfway point and lunch destination. We savored  a relaxing lunch in the shade, under the fans at The Deck. We peeked into the fancy sister restaurant next door, Allatoona Grill, before hopping back into our kayaks for the return trip.

The second half was even hotter, with little breeze and more blazing sun. Plenty of lively conversation in our small group. We spotted an osprey nest and several beautiful birds including great blue heron, kingfisher, and a bald eagle. Returning to the put-in point, we helped one another load up our kayaks until the next time.

It was a perfect day on the sparkling water. Happy August!
