Turns out that the Blood Mountain Wilderness wasn't heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene.  Our group of hikers enjoyed nice weather as we trekked from the shores of Lake Winfield Scott up the Jarrard Gap Trail and onto the AT. Late summer flowers are still in bloom, and some of the trees are starting to show their autumn colors. We spend time exploring the summit of Blood Mountain before lunch, and then headed down on the AT to Slaughter Gap Trail, listening to the gentle sounds of the creek as we hiked through the rhododendron tunnels back to the lake.
