We had a great group of 15 hikers at Island Ford this morning. We had several Trip Leaders on the hike, and Joyce served as my Co-Lead because I needed someone to control the rowdy crowd. She did as good a job as possible.
The weather could not have been better with temperatures in the 70s and a gentle breeze the whole time. It was a special day in a couple of ways. One was that no one was permanently lost. That is always a good thing. But the real special celebration was for two centennial hikes. Marianna celebrated her 500th event and Joyce celebrated her 2900th event. I cannot comprehend those numbers. Joyce will be posting pictures so we can see the hike and the celebration.
Congratulations to Marianna and Joyce. I'm happy we all got to celebrate with you today.
We hiked 6.3 miles with a little over 600 feet of elevation in 2:17. Our average pace was 2.8 mph. We also spent a few minutes at the visitor center. Our total time was 2:24. Job well done folks. There was lots of jibber jabbering and laughing so I'm pretty sure everyone had a good time.
Stay tuned for pictures from Joyce and Lee.
