Gary planned for weeks to have his 100th event today, so I was determined to make it happen, rain or shine. The weather forecast looked questionable, but it also looked like the predicted rain could stop right at hike time - - and it did! Because of the wet trails, our hike today was through the neighborhood along Northside Drive, a route I've taken in the past on rainy days.
I was so happy with our group today! No one complained about hiking on the road, and I realized that my Thursday regulars just love getting together and catching up on each other's lives every week. The hike itself is secondary.
After returning to the parking lot, we took photos of Gary and the group which we skipped earlier. We had several donations of treats, so we hung around for a while enjoying each other's company.
I'm so very happy that this group of 12 braved what could have been a rainy morning to let Gary know how proud they were of his milestone achivement. It was a very special morning!
One more thing. I was ultra-impressed to see Mary R. on today's hike, just 3 months after she had knee replacement surgery. One would never know that she was still recovering from that major procedure. She looked terrific! ~ Joyce
