Twelve hikers braved the cold and wind on an exploratory hike on the Benton Mackaye and Duncan Ridge trails. We climbed Toonowee Mountain, then we climbed Tooni Mountain. Then we descended to the 260 foot Toccoa suspension bridge. After the bridge we climbed about a thousand feet to Bryson Gap, where we found a spot sheltered from the wind to have lunch. After lunch we returned to our cars. Along the way we saw ice on the trails and great views through the bare trees, often enjoying the patterns the sun made on the ground as it tried to burn holes through the clouds. All agreed that this route was worth repeating!
