It was a perfect morning for our hike at Vickery Creek. We started a bit chilly, but after several minutes of fast hiking, jackets and caps were coming off. The creek water was running very swiftly, which made for a gorgeous waterfall at the dam. Sadly, it seemed a bit too much for Bleu, who never made an appearance.
We were so happy to welcome two brand new members into the AOC for their first hike! Gen and Alla (a friend of Mariina's) proved to be very fit, capable hikers. Russ took lots of photos of them to commemorate their first AOC event as well as their first of Russ's Vickery Creek hikes. Hopefully, we'll see a lot more of these ladies on our local hikes.
It was great to see the new log-bridge that the CRNRA volunteers (led by Susan F.) constructed over the often-flooded creek at the end of the Oxbo Road trail as it turns to parallel Grimes Bridge. It's a sturdy bridge, far suprior to the rocks we had to hop in the past.
We finished our 2 hour hike right on time, clocking in 5.4 miles. When we weren't posing for photos, we were hiking fast! ~ Joyce
