Mon, Apr 7 2025 - Monday Morning Hike on the Etowah Trail at Boling Park (View Original Event Details)

The good news is that the rain stopped before our hike! How lucky we were. The not-so-good news is that the trails were all extremely wet, with some of them rather flooded. Thank goodness everyone on the hike was experienced and had water-proof boots. Poles really came in handy today!
It was fortunate that Holt took the lead on this hike. The Green Trail, which we started on, involved what is usually a very easy creek crossing; however, today, the creek was a fast running river, impossible to cross. So, Holt devised an alternate route on the Purple and Yellow trails, which worked out just fine.
We saw hundreds of May Apples and the sprouts of Big Leaf Magnolias, plus Trillium, and Wild Azaleas. We crossed a couple of steep hills, which gave us a good workout, and we saw the remains of an old still and evidence of a quarry. Holt offered some interesting history on the area as we hiked.
Most of the group brought lunch, which we ate at a nearby picnic table. How grateful we all were to be able to get in our hike this morning! ~ Joyce
