We parked at the Pigeon Hill parking lot and checked in. We did our safety briefing, an explanation of today’s workplan, and with the park celebrating American Battlefield Trust / Park Day a brief history of the New Salem Community in early 1864. In addition to us we had 21 volunteers from Hillgrove JROTC, Allatoona JROTC, a church group, several that showed up to help. We trashed a social trail coming from Burnt Hickory Road, cleaned inside and around the ruins of New Salem Church, and debermed from where the original New Salem Church Trail met the New Salem Church Trail reroute to the intersection of the New Salem Church Trail and the Noses Creek Trail. It was a great group, and we completed the workplan. I also got a chance to show the volunteers what a rifleman in the earthworks would look like.
