Write Up:Despite the ominous weather forecast, we had a great day for a hike in January. We began our trek in Unicoi State Park, where the Smith Creek trail parallels the park road for about a 1/2 mile. Then we continued along the creek, until about the 1 mile mark, where we start a major climb. For many of us, it was the first big exertion of the winter months. But it did feel good. We then made our way to Anna Ruby Falls, which were spectacular. We enjoyed lunch on the platform just below the falls and many of us took turns taking pictures or having our pictures taken with friends with the falls in the background. It started to sprinkle a little rain as we left for the return leg to the trailhead, but the remainder of the trip was dry.
