Write Up:Whoever thinks that birdwatching lacks excitement should've been there by the river with us and our friendly Audubon Society hosts as a big red-tailed hawk grabbed a fat squirrel in his talons directly above us, flew with it to a nearby branch, and devoured it before our very eyes.
During our 3-hour field trip we positively identified more than 250 gorgeous birds of 43 different species including other types of hawks, great blue herons, double-crested cormorants, black ducks, kingfishers, pileated and red-headed woodpeckers, goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds and various warblers.
The Audubon Society heartily welcomes "subgroups" from the AOC to join them at no charge for these highly entertaining and educational metro Atlanta birding walks - also any individual who enjoys birdwatching. For specifics go to AtlantaAudubon.org and click on "Field Trips." -Charlie
