Sat, May 19 2012 - Discover Sandy Creek Nature Center in Athens, Ga ! (View Original Event Details)
|
I know, I know . . . I think every event is wonderful, extraordinary, the best ever, incredibly awesome. But this one was among the best of the best! It was the first-ever event at Athen's Sandy Creek Nature Center, but it should certainly become a favorite. Our group of 10 members hiked Cook's Trail 4.3 miles to the Crow's Nest camp site located in Sandy Creek Park. There, we found a clean, functioning bathroom/water fountain and several picnic tables under the canopy of trees. No one was using the area, so we made ourselves at home and enjoyed lunch there. We hiked down the road to the park lake for a couple of pictures before heading back along Cook's Trail to the Nature Center. The group chose to put aside our backpacks to hike along the Clay Pond Trail past the Audubon Shelter to the 1810 Log Cabin. We took more pictures there before heading back along the Pine Ridge Trail to the cars. It was 10.5 miles of delight, pure and simple. Thanks to Mark, Clay, Victor, Ray, Nathan, Sunae, Susan, Lucia, and Sachi for joining me on this premier event. It couldn't have been more perfect.
The photos help tell the story.
