Mon, Sep 3 2012 - 2nd Annual Loop-the-Hooch Labor Day Bouldering Hike (View Original Event Details)
|
We thirteen had an exciting and memorable experience together on this challenging 7-mile "circumnavigation" of both riverbanks of the Chattahoochee between I-285 and US-41. The weather cooperated nicely, with comfortable temperatures, an occasional nice breeze, and not a drop of rain despite tropical storm Isaac's rain bands" still swirling nearby. We were proud of everyone successfully scaling safely up and down the palisades cliffs this year with virtually no "rock rash" and just a few scratches from the briars and rhododendron thickets that we had to bushwhack through from time to time. We had no problem one-upping" last year's Loop-the-Hooch by including in our route the highest overlooks in the East and West Palisades - both more than 200' above the river - also "Mark's Cave" in the East Palisades. -Charlie, 5:00 pm Monday.
