Write Up:It was a race against darkness! Do we hike till 6:30, 6:50, or till dark? That was the big question during this cold spring hike with the threat of gates closing either at 6:30 (posted on the entrance) or 6:50 (the "dusk" time indicated on the web site). We opted for safety and kept a fast pace to pack in the miles between 5:15 and 6:30. (We completed the lollipop trail plus a hike to the river and back - - between 4-5 miles.)
It was a great hike! Going with no breaks for water or for breathing made it more challenging, but there were plenty of smiles along the way and no complaints. Working up a sweat in the cold air just added to the enjoyment of this simple hike.
