The following is Mark F.'s first write-up for the AOC! Well done, Mark!
We had a very nice hike around the big rock this afternoon. Even though the clouds stayed thick above, the rains held off until our hike was completed full circle back to our point of origin. We enjoyed varied views of the lakes and great views of the mountain along with some of the local wild life and plants. I have to thank Charlie and Hakeem and Jean for collectively leading the group as I frequently bounced back and forth trying to count heads, sweeping some of the time and leading the front of the group only a little. The group humored Joyce for the requisite bridge photos and she also tried to get several beautiful white tailed deer together for a group photo or two. I must say this was a most enjoyable hike with several new friends made and some other recent acquaintances renewed. One of the few things I love as much as being out in nature is to be in the company of good people. Today I had both. I would like to thank Alex, Charlie, Hakeem, Jane, Jean, Linda, Shirley, Stan, and Tom for a successful first co-lead in my quest to become a trip leader with the AOC. I hope to see you all on the trails soon! Thanks again, especially to Joyce, my first co-lead!
