Write Up:Our hike began with a HISS as we spotted two snakes in rapid succession: a small green snake and a much larger black rat snake. After getting the serpent portion of our event over with, we moved off the gravel path and into the forest. Our tightknit group of eight spread out a bit from time to time as we traversed through the trees, but always stayed within "Marco-Polo" shouting distance. We enjoyed a varied landscape as we wove through woods, swamp, and marshland, at times stepping aside to make way for the cyclists. A steady pace, heart-pumping inclines and an eight-plus-mile distance left us fulfilled and ready for the weekend!
