Fri, May 3 2013 - Friday After Work at Island Ford (View Original Event Details)

It was a dark and stormy night... well, ok, afternoon. The clouds roiled across the sky as the wind in the trees seemed to whisper a portent of what was to come. It began as an ordinary hike, the eight of us meeting in the upper parking lot, exchanging brief introductions and posing for the obligatory group photo before setting off along the "new" lollipop section of Island Ford. But mystery was afoot as we discovered an abandoned backpack and, a couple hundred yards down the path, some discarded jackets.
We stuck close together as a group as we continued along, aware of every snapping branch and blowing leaf. When the unattended items were still on the trail when we doubled back, we decided to contact the police. We were advised to bring the items to the parking lot and were met there by a uniformed officer, who took our report and the evidence. Perhaps less steadfast hikers might have called it a night, but we bravely forged ahead to complete our planned mileage at a brisk D3 pace. We may never solve the Case of the Cryptic Cache, but one thing's for sure: adventure abounds with the AOC.
