Wed, Jun 19 2013 - Salty Wednesday at Vickery Creek (View Original Event Details)
|
Our Wednesday event got off to a salty start right off the bat, as our fearless leader's brisk pace quickly turned our skin salty. After a few salty phrases were muttered underneath the breath, we took a couple of short breaks and moderated the pace ever so slightly. We encountered abundant evidence of the recent storms, at times having to climb over, duck under, or bushwhack around several large downed trees, sharp branches, and a great deal of organic debris. One tree seemed to have been freshly split by lightening, with sharp "toothpicks" of various sizes everywhere.
After a respectable 4.64 miles, with the other fearless leader sweeping up every grain of straggling salt, we arrived back at the cars with hearty appetites. With the exception of a couple hikers who opted for the low-sodium version of the hike, we sallied forth to Salt Factory for refueling. We enjoyed a great meal and hoisted our glasses amid laughter and good conversation. We all left happy after a group goodbye outside the restaurant at dusk.
