On this 7-mile circuit of the mountain today we enjoyed exploring many of the "hidden jewels" of Stone Mountain Park including numerous off-the-beaten-path trails, the old train yard, and the rocky eastern shoulder of the giant monolith with its outdoor quarry museum. As we traversed the "great lawn" at the base of  the  memorial carving we had an unexpected treat!  Some of the South's most talented "dock-diving dogs" were competing by broad-jumping from a raised takeoff ramp into a large pool - some as far as 19 or 20 feet.  Their proud owners told us that the world record is about 31 feet - farther than any human has ever jumped!  -Charlie
