Tue, Nov 12 2013 - Gold Branch at Ten on Eleven Twelve Thirteen (View Original Event Details)
|
It was all about the numbers on this event at Gold Branch.
We met at 10 on 11/12/13, the 14 of us.
14, divided by 2 genders, equals 7 men and 7 women.
At 11:12 and 13 seconds, we 14 sat together in a circle to contemplate our surroundings via the 5 senses. We heard the leaves rustling in the wind and the drone of a distant leafblower. We tasted the thirst built up from our exertion and the cool, clean water that quenched said thirst. We smelled the dry dusty leaves and perhaps a whiff of perspiration that resulted from our climb. We felt the solid earth below us and the muscle fibers twitching within our bodies. We saw the beautiful, serene faces of our companions, the brilliant azure sky, and the red, gold, and brown of the autumn leaves. We each had awareness of numerous other sensations in our own private thoughts. The countdown on this hike included:
10 - (times 10) photos taken by Joyce
9 - mph winds blowing through the trees
8 - button mushrooms sprouting on a log
7 - fallen trees
6 - stumbles over roots and rocks by the sweeper
5 - lessons on the beetles known as "tree girdlers"
4 - turtles sunning on a log across Bull Sluice Lake
3 - surreptitious pit stops behind trees
2 - good of a day not to be outside
1 - more fantastic hike with the Atlanta Outdoor Club!
We'll close with a little number to stimulate your sense of sound:

Thank you all for a number of great moments!
