An awesome group of 16 hikers shared four fantastic hours exloring Piedmont Park and the Eastside Beltline. After meeting at the 14th Street gate, we ventured down to the Piedmont Park Green Market for 20 minutes of exploration.  We sampled a variety of fresh fare including sauteed broccoli raab, hot chai tea, homemade Asian dumplings, and fresh persimmon.  After regouping at the designated statue, we proceeded along some of the many winding paths through the park.  We enjoyed sights along the way including a bird's eye view of the wetlands area from Peregrine Point, a yoga class in progress at the Legacy Fountain, and a meander along the tree-lined Promenade.

We detoured out of the park to experience an art installation that funneled our senses up into the sky, then returned to the park to see the arbor and vegetable garden.  Again leaving the park, we picked up the gravel path that will one day become an extension of the Beltline.  Connecting with the paved section of the Beltline, we admired the variety of artwork along the way.  As we walked the fog lifted and outer layers were shed as the sun emerged from behind the clouds.

We arrived at the Irwin Street Market ready for refueling.  We enjoyed sandwiches, salads, bagels and ice cream before setting off to double back along the Beltline.  Stolling along in amicable groups of twos and threes, we savored one another's company and the sunshine on our shoulders.  Arriving back at Piedmont Park, we entered near 10th Street and wandered past the meadow and among majestic old growth giants.  Crossing over the lake we paused to admire a big bass that a local fisherman had reeled in, and then posed for the obligatory bridge shot.  Cutting through the soccer fields on the Active Oval, we climbed the old stone staircase back to the 14th Street gate. Many thanks to all participants who made this urban hike a tremendous success! ~ Lisa
