Mon, Dec 16 2013 - Amicalola Falls to Len Foote Hike Inn (View Original Event Details)

What a perfect day for hiking this turned out to be, a small group of 4 braved cold weather to make this one of the most memorable hikes to Len Foote Inn.
We started off all layered up with warm clothing, but hiking a brisk few minutes on the Hike Inn trail had us shedding layers. Two and a half hours later we were sitting in the warm and cozy diner of the Inn. We shared our lunches and a few cups of coffee later Ken and Lorain had woken up and were rearing to go some more. So we set out again, returning via the AT approach trail. Back at our cars, an hour and a half later, we walked to the top of the falls. It would have been a pity if we came all this way only to pass on the tallest cascading waterfall in the southeast. So after the end of our official hike, Ken, Joyce and I decided to walk the 425 steps to view the tumbling falls, and it was a sight to behold! This beauty of nature was absolutely mesmerising!
This hike was everything it promised to be and more! Blue skies and great views greeted us from not only the overlook at the Inn but also throughout the hike. Interesting theories about the presence of snot while hiking in cold weather and the scope of the word "mostly" (as in mostly downhill) were tossed around all through the day and they made for some hillarious moments. And finally pictures, between Joyce and myself we have a whole bunch of them, and we pretty much have a shot at EVERY single bridge there was! We were all happy to pause and gaze at the tiny streams of water flowing and they are some of the best memories we take back from this hike!
I am so glad we could all make it to this hike! I found myself smiling even during periods of muted conversation, and that is proof of how pleasant and enjoyable this hike was! Thank you Joyce T. , Ken, and Lorain for a great day!
