Change of plans on the fly. After driving within 2 miles of the trail head the park service had closed the road to the trail head. Wouldn't even let us walk the rest of the way. Being good citizens we hiked the loop at nearby Smithgall Woods then drove to Helen and hiked to Unicoi Lodge. On the hike back we added the Frog Pond (didn't see any forgs) trail and the Bottom Loop trail so we got in about 8 miles. The weather was cool and crisp and the sun renigged on the weatherman''s promise to shine. All in all a fun day with a fun group. Lemmy kept us all entertained and at the end lead us to a fine German restaurant. We had one new member on her first hike with the club, Lesley Yun, who showed us that she was the strongest hiker of us all. We'll do it again when the road is open.
