Wed, Jan 22 2014 - Carpe Diem at Island Ford (Winter Edition) (View Original Event Details)
|
Bear-bells ring, are you listening? On the trail, frost is glistening; A beautiful sight, we're happy to hike; Walking in a Winter Wonderland.
Brrrrrrrrr-ing on the sub-freezing temperatures! They didn't deter this group of thirteen hardy hikers. Nary a one dropped off the hike or no-showed, but instead arrived at Island Ford wearing big smiles and many layers. After bundling up, lending and borrowing gloves, and proclaiming our favorite cold-weather garment (ranging from Divya hats on our heads to woolen socks on our toes) we set off at a speedy pace.
After touring through the forest, along the river, and completing the lollipop (wintergreen flavor today), we settled in for a brief rest and recitation of poetry, haiku, quotes, and song verses. We were treated to lovely gems of enlightenment by a variety of wordsmiths including Rudyard Kipling, Sara Bareilles, Robert Frost, Robert Louis Stevenson, and more. We even pondered the mystical beauty of Island Ford via the imagination of a poet among us. We were joined by a red-headed woodpecker and some of her feathered friends who lighted on nearby branches to cock their heads at their human guests.
Thank you, Joyce, for your visual documentation of our winter adventure.
And many thanks to each of you for making this an extraordinary event. This is my winter song to you. Carpe Diem and Keep Moving!
