The Day After the Day After the Day After Snowpocalypse 2014!
Arriving at the trailhead was a challenge. The hilly, curvy roads surrounding the Whitewater Creek entrance had been transformed into a skating rink by a broad sheet of ice. However, AOC'ers are nothing if not determined and resourceful. After a careful assessment of conditions, and consultation within the group, we crafted and implemented a shuttle system utilizing 4-wheel-drive vehicles.
After exchanging introductions, congratulating Susan on her 300th event, and noshing on delicious Praline Pecan Ritz Bitz (thank you, Joyce!), we hit the trail. Our route took us through a variety of conditions including ice, snow, and mud. The rising temperatures thawed the ground to a squishy mess in some sections. What happens on the trails stays on the trails, but suffice to say that several of us will be soaking mud stains out of our britches tonight. We are pleased to report no injuries, except for some slightly bruised egos.
We rested at the top of the BAH to enjoy the winter vista from the overlook. Returning to our starting point, we bid farewell, shuttled back to our cars, and packed some Ritz Bitz to go in our carry-out bags.
