We arrived at the parking lot just about the same time as fifty or so first-graders got off a school bus, eager to take samples of mud from the banks of the pond. Fortunately, the children stayed by the pond, so that our little group were soon past them and on our way through Sope Creek to the cemetery at Cochran Shoals.  We hiked at a brisk pace, with occasional stops to take pictures of a toad, a flower, and turtles as well as a couple of people shots.  We covered a little over 5.5 miles and we worked up a good sweat as the temperatures climbed high into the 80's.  It was a beautiful morning for a hike!  ~ Joyce
