Sun, Aug 17 2014 - Horseback Riding and Lunch in Madison, GA (View Original Event Details)
|
It was a hot day, but our group of nine women really enjoyed our time riding throughout the cooler, shaded trails at the Southern Cross Ranch in Madison, GA. Seven of us drove over early Sunday morning, and two ladies opted to stay at the Ranch Saturday night so that they could enjoy an additional ride the day before, plus three delicious meals. They highly recommended staying at the Ranch in the future to the rest of us, based on their experience.
After arriving, Jacquie gave everyone a quick tutorial on proper riding attire and techniques, then our group was the first in line to have our horses assigned at the stable. After brushing them down and getting them saddled and bridled, we split up into various groups for our ride, based on our experience levels. Despite some interesting challenges (brushes with trees, a foot coming out of the stirrup while at full canter, a kicking horse, etc.) everyone had a wonderful time during our two hour ride through the trails and paddocks. We were especially impressed when, after Sherri’s rein broke, David, the head guide, was able to repair it on-site without having to return to the stable. He was like a mounted AAA!
At the end of our ride, we helped rub down the horses and then made our way up to the main Ranch building to clean up, get drinks and relax in the air conditioning until lunch was served. As usual, the lunch spread was plentiful and delicious, with roast beef, wiener schnitzel, broccoli, homemade mashed potatoes, carrots, salads, fresh-baked bread, fruit, etc, After a nice, full meal and some great conversation, we all said our goodbyes and headed back to Atlanta.
Everyone liked the Southern Cross Ranch, and we will definitely try to do more events there in the future. For those who couldn’t join us this time, we highly recommend it if you enjoy riding and good food!
Joyce was, as usual, our designated photographer and did a great job, so be sure to check out her photo album at the link provided!
