Wed, Aug 6 2014 - Wednesday at Bear Hair Gap and Byron Reece Nature Trail (View Original Event Details)
|
We had the trail practically to ourselves today, and a beautiful but hot day it was. After circling the Byron Reece Nature Trail, the first third of the trail was a relentless ascension to the ridge - - which got us all dripping with perspiration. After that, it was a piece of cake, sort of. Those with bad knees didn't appreciate the downhill portion of the trail that followed. When we got back to the parking lot, we unpacked our lunches and enjoyed a repast under the trees beside the lake. After lunch, we circled the lake to take in the beautiful waterfall, bringing our hiking distance to over 7.5 miles.
Our plan to visit the Byron Herbert Reece Heritage Farm before heading home fell through. The place is open only Thursday through Sunday.
It was good to see Shirley and Robert, who haven't hiked with us in a while. And we welcomed Joel A., a brand new AOC member on his first hike! ~ Joyce
