Sun, Aug 31 2014 - Sunday Hikes the Entire GA Appalachian Trail Series-Week 1 (View Original Event Details)
|
Our first trek in the Georgia Appalacian Trail series was a great success. Figuring out the shuttle took a little time, but once we got going, it was smooth sailing for the rest of the day. . . except for a brief downpour that caught the group while they waited for the cars to return from the shuttle lot.
We started the hike at Springer Mountain, hiked the Three Forks Trail, ate lunch at High Creek Falls, and ended at Hightower Gap - - 11 miles later. It was a warm but beautiful day for hiking, with lots of mushrooms and scenic photo opportunitities. Because of the night time rain on Saturday, the trails were a little slippery in places, causing two of our members to take falls; however, they weren't injured badly and completed the hike with the rest of the group.
Next week's Sunday Appalacian Trail hike (#2 in the series) is already posted . . . so perhaps you'll join us! It's a great opportunity to hike the entire Appalacian Trail in Georgia!~ Joyce
