Sun, Sep 21 2014 - Sunday Hikes the Entire GA Appalachian Trail Series-Week 4 (View Original Event Details)
|
The views on today's hike were so much better than those of last week, when fog blanketed the trail for the entire day. Today was sunny and clear, and we had many chances to stop and admire the views. Divya, Adel, and Joyce left the carpool early and began the hike first, allowing us to take our time getting to Hogpen Gap and stop frequently for photos.
The rest of the group joined us at Hogpen Gap for a group picture, and we all did an about-face and headed back to Neel Gap together. We kept up a good pace, but stopped a couple of times for pictures and the views. Sadly, a few of our group got stung by yellow jackets, but Stinger (Divya) somehow escaped their wrath today! She's learning to tread lightly in their vicinity, and to avoid panicking.
Because of our long lunch break, we were pushing the clock to get back before dusk . . . which we did. It was a strenuous hike, but a really good one for all. Join us if you can for #5 in the series (on Sept. 28): Hogpen Gap to Unicoi Gap. ~ Joyce
