Thu, Dec 4 2014 - Thursday Morning Hike at Island Ford (View Original Event Details)
|
The highlight of our hike today was getting a captivating view of a heron trying to eat a very large fish. It was too much for the heron, and he eventually dropped his potential meal, obviously needing air more than he needed to continue trying to get that fish down its throat. We watched for several minutes before we returned to the trail, hiking rather briskly to make up time from our heron-watch.
We encountered a little drizzle as we started the hike, but after a brief misting, we removed our rain jackets and had dry trails. We skipped the lollipop trail today, but still managed to cover 6 miles by zig-zagging through the trails in the main section of the park. ~ Joyce
