I've done this hike starting from a different location and can tell you that it's a challenging but rewarding trail. You should definitely have D3 experience before registering, especially since I haven't been there in a long time and don't know the condition of the trail. Plus, I have never led the hike from this trailhead. If that doesn't scare you off, come along! It will be an adventure! The hike will be a combination of the yellow, blue, and red trails for a total of about 6 miles. The yellow and blue portions are intermediate with the .7 mile of the red trail being advanced. The top elevation reached will be 1,354 feet. As the name implies, the out and back trail climbs and descends Vineyard Mountain and then hugs the shoreline of Lake Allatoona as far south as the parking area adjacent to Bethany Bridge near Red Top Mountain. The time for the hike includes lunch. The hike itself will start around 10:15 am and end by around 1:15 pm. If you are not staying with us for lunch, you'll get back to the carpool by around 2 pm. | |||||||
