Itinerary: | |||||||
Named for the soil's rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area for iron. We will be hiking the 5.5 mile Homestead Trail which starts at the front porch of the park Visitor Center taking us into some beautiful areas of the park. Before returning back to the visitor center we will loop along the shore of the lovely Lake Allatoona which was created in the 1950s by the damming of the Etowah River. There are several elevations along the way to make this a solid D2 so be prepared for some climbing. Will limit the number of dogs to two. | |||||||
