Halloween Hike at East Palisades

Join us for a Halloween morning hike at East Palisades with Lyndsay, one of our newest Potential Trip Leaders!  (Costumes are welcomed, but optional!) Conveniently located in NW Atlanta, this heavily forested unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) boasts amazing views from rocky "palisades" high above the river. (See Directions below.)

We'll start at the Whitewater Creek entrance and meander through both hilly and riverside areas. We'll keep a moderate pace so we can get a little bit of a workout while still being able to enjoy the scenery around us. We'll aim to get in about 4.5 miles or a bit more before we wrap up our hike at 11:00 am. While we won't be pushing ourselves too hard, please keep in mind that there are some steep areas along the trails, and thus this hike may not be appropriate for true beginners. Be sure you are ready to take on some elevation and a consistent moderate pace. Remember to bring water for the hike! Even though the weather is cooling off and the hike is not too long, it is important to stay hydrated. You must bring water with you to go on this hike. On a related note, there are no restrooms at this location, so please plan accordingly before you arrive. :)

Please arrive at the Whitewater Creek entrance about 10-15 minutes early. This will give us time to go through introductions and snap a couple of group pictures before we start promptly at 9:00 PM. If you do not have a CRNRA annual parking pass, please bring $3 to purchase one at the parking lot.

Traveling I-75 NB – Take exit 256 and turn right onto Mt. Paran Rd NW, then go 0.2 miles. Take a left onto Sentinel Post Rd NW and go 0.4 miles. Turn right onto Whitewater Creek Rd NW, go about 0.4 miles, then take a left. The parking lot is 0.3 miles after the turn. 

Traveling I-75 SB - Take exit 256 and turn right onto Mt. Paran Rd NW, then turn left onto Northside Pkwy NW. After 0.5 miles, turn left onto Beechwood Dr NW, then left again onto Cave Rd NW. Cave turns into Sentinel Post Rd NW when you cross Mt. Paran. Go 0.4 miles past Mt Paran and turn right onto Whitewater Creek Rd NW. Go about 0.4 miles, then take a left. The parking lot is 0.3 miles after the turn.

Traveling I-285 WB – Take exit 22. After 0.4 miles, turn left onto Northside Dr NW. 1.8 miles later, turn right onto Harris Trail NW. Go 0.8 miles and turn onto Whitewater Creek Rd NW. Take your second right, about 0.1 miles later. The parking lot is 0.3 miles after the turn.
