This is a great opportunity to come out and see what the AOC is all about in a comfortable setting with other new members. There is a nice pavilion at this park at which we can stop after the hike to answer any questions you may have.

We will use the following method to assist our newer members in reserving a spot on this newcomer hike: anyone who has been on 5 or less events is welcome to sign up as soon as the trip opens. If you have attended more than 5 events and would still like to go on this event, you can sign up and you will be placed on the waitlist. After the event registration closes, if there are still spots available we will move you back onto the event in the order you signed up. You will receive a confirmation email to notify those who make the list.

We will start on time, so please arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in. Restrooms are available at the parking lot.

This will be a D2 leisurely paced hike; nothing fast and no one will be left behind. We'll cover about 3.5 to 4 miles.

If you are a beginner and just getting started on your outdoor program, or an experienced hiker who just wants a peaceful afternoon stroll in the woods, this is a great little park and hike. A walk in Mason Mill Park is a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city, without having to drive to get out of the city.

We will walk along several creeks and streams, through some floodplains, past the old Decatur waterworks, through pine and hardwood forests, while we make our way along many trails. The hike will be approximately 4 miles in length, with the majority on dirt trails, so bring appropriate footwear with good traction.

Park Address: 1340 McConnell Dr, Decatur, GA 30033

From the intersection of North Druid Hills Rd. and Clairmont Rd. drive 0.3 miles south (i.e. towards downtown) on Clairmont Rd. Turn left on McConnell Drive and proceed about 100 yards to the stop sign. At the stop sign turn right and continue for about 200 yards... the park entrace is on the left. We will meet at the restroom facility at the playground which will be on the right after entering the park.
