Itinerary:

A new hike at Kennesaw Mountain for all levels  of hikers!

All hikers are invited (slow hikers, newcomers, beginners, intermediate and fast hikers).

Many AOC members have mentioned to me that they would like to hike Kennesaw Mountain, but are not ready for the D4s or 5s at Kennesaw. With this in mind,  I do not want anyone to miss out on Kennesaw Mountain as it is one of the most amazing mountains close to Atlanta.  Kennesaw battlefield  is known for its mountains, nature, wildlife, Civil War history and beautiful trails. The park covers around 16 or more miles of trail with elevation gains of up to 2600 feet (Big Kennesaw and Little Kennesaw Mountains). For this hike we are going to keep it simple so anyone can join.

The hike will begin at the visitor's center in which we will hike straight up Kennesaw Mountain 1 mile with an elevation gain of  700 ft. Next, we will head back down the mountain (1mile) and turn  to Camp Brumby  (flat trail) for another mile which loops us back to the visitor's center. The hike is only 3 miles, but there will be a 700 ft. elevation gain in approx. 1 mile.  This is challenging, but do not let that keep you from signing-up for the event.  The hike starts at 7am so it will be cooler,  and hikers have up to  2 hours to complete the hike.  You can go at your own pace,  cheer others on,  abort if you feel you cannot complete the hike,  or just relax at the visitor's center.

This hike is going to be fun!

For any of our fast distance hikers you are welcome to join and go at your own pace and distance.  You can hike Kennesaw Mountain as many times as you would like within the 2 hour window for the event. For those who just feel like hiking this at a very slow pace this is also perfect (you will have 2 hours to complete 3 miles) Bring plenty of water and a snack!

Everyone who completes the hike gets a prize at the end!

See you at the visitor's center Labor Day!

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

1) I-75 North to exit 267B Hwy 5 Canton Road Connector

2) If you are not heading west after getting off of the Interstate you are going the wrong way.  You should be heading towards US 41 and downtown Marietta after getting off of I-75 onto the Canton Road Connector and see Kennesaw Mountain on your right.

3) You will be tempted to take the first exit off of the Canton Road Connector which is US 41, but do not take it.  Proceed over US 41 on a bridge staying on the Canton Road Connector.

4) After crossing US 41 take a right at the first redlight which is Church Street Extension.

5) You should cross railroad tracks soon.

6) Take a left onto Old 41 at the second redlight.  If you get to US 41 again, you have missed the turn onto Old 41 so turn around.

7) Stay on Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain then turn left at the redlight and park in the main visitor center lot if you can.  If full head back out to Old 41, take a left and park in the overflow parking lot farther down the road on the left.

Park at Vistor's Center or Overflow Lot: Meet at the Visitor's Center.
