Itinerary:

Be prepared for cool (40s) weather but Clear and Sunny for an excellent Friday Morning hike on the East Palisades.  We'll be enjoying the ups, downs, ins and outs of the trail with some water's edge, possible rocks in the river walking, bamboo, and optional mild rocky elevation.  Because of the elevation, pace, distance, and terrain, this is NOT a good hike for beginners.

The East Palisades Trail hikes north, crossing a wooden bridge over Charlie's Trapping Creek before turning right at the first trail intersection. The hike changes terrain quickly, grabbing elevation and switching back in an ascent to a tall bluff overlooking the Chattahoochee. Views from the platform perched on the bluff are outstanding, stretching upriver across the angular shoals of the Palisades. The trail meanders through a series of signed intersections, beginning a northward descent toward Cabin Creek, crossing Cabin Creek and turning west to follow the creek downstream to the Chattahoochee River. The trail crosses a small creek before hiking through a grove of 30-foot tall, towering bamboo stalks  that knock musically in the wind.

Please note the directions for parking at the Indian Trail entrance to the park. This entrance has a long gravel road that should be navigated at a very slow speed to minimize the chance of hitting a pot hole. (The worst pot hole is just as you enter the gravel path down the cement entrance!)  And remember to bring $3 cash for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

Repeat:  Drive SLOWLY as soon as you leave the paved road and get onto the gravel path!  There are dips and potholes that appear suddenly, so be careful!  Also, you may have to pull over for oncoming cars.
