EVENT PLAN: The wooded extended trail network of Frazier-Rowe Park here in NE Atlanta currently has a large herd of goats and several beautiful big white shepherding dogs who are being rented by DeKalb County to control the invasive non-native vegetation in several big fenced areas within the forest. Please join me for this easy 3- to 4-mile "working animal encounter" hike on these lovely trails. If time permits we'll extend the hike along some of the nice sidewalks in the Park's quiet adjoining residential neighborhood. The forecast for 2:30-4:30 PM expects sunny skies and an afternoon high of about 60 degrees. WHERE & WHEN? We'll meet a few minutes before 2:30 PM at the Frazier-Rowe Park bulletin board and trailhead. It's beside the Vista Grove Plaza shopping center's free parking lot, at 2868 LaVista Rd beside Sprig Restaurant. See easy detailed directions below and for a zoomable map or satellite view click above on the square blue & green "Event Location" icon. ABOUT the PARK: Named for two neighboring families of different ethnicity who lived in harmony there in the mid-20th century, Frazier-Rowe Park is owned by DeKalb County and occupies about 10 acres of forest. Founded in 2013, its trail network and floral gardens, bridges and other structures have been built, planted and maintained by hundreds of hard-working local citizens and Boy Scout troops, etc. Our "Friends of Frazier-Rowe Park" group was awarded a $10,000 "prize grant" for its excellent use of volunteerism - affirming that ordinary people of all ages can make a big difference when working together toward a common goal. Hikers can easily connect to other scenic trails in the same forest that adjoin Coralwood Elementary School.
