Go at your own pace on this one - we'll have a sweeper. If you think you can handle 12.3 miles, this IS a good one to try. Your trip leaders will help out and we can't lose you at Kennesaw.
Please join us this Sunday at Kennesaw Mountain for a dayhike that will include a mix of terrain and also a visit to its historic summit.
We will start at the BACK OF THE OVERFLOW LOT on Old 41, so we'll get about a half mile in before the visitor's center then we'll go along the side of the mountain for another half mile (to get warmed up) before looping back up and over the mountain and down to Burnt Hickory. We'll cross Burnt Hickory, continue across Whitlock/Dallas Hwy, and take a break (SNACK) at the Illinois monument. From there we'll do a loop near the Cheatham Hill parking lot, head back across Dallas Hwy, and take the East Trail across Burnt Hickory onto the Brumby trail, back to the visitor's center and then the overflow lot to finish. We only summit the mountain once on this hike.
There is approximately 1800 ft of elevation gain on this hike - so its NOT A BEGINNER HIKE - but if you know you can handle the mountain once and want to try the 12.3 total miles - come on out, we can rescue you easily if it becomes too much.
Meet at the BACK OF THE OVERFLOW parking lot on Old 41 (about a half mile from the Visitor's Center) | |||||||
